Catalog description

An introductory course in the study of community and community life. The learning is accomplished through both traditional classroom instruction and community-based service learning endeavors that reinforce the classroom instruction. Basic issues of community are covered in the class, including community theory, community research methods, diversity, community planning, and community organizing and organizations. Service learning dominates the second half of the class with students placed in agencies in the Southeast Neighborhoods that have long-standing partnerships with the University.
