Media Writing
University of Indianapolis · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Students in this course will learn the fundamentals of writing in many forms - from journalism to public relations; sports to entertainment; advertising to speech writing; social to emerging media - as well as across multiple mediums, including print, digital, audio, video and beyond. Media Writing teaches compositional craftsmanship from a journalism base and a communication core that implements a strategic application to ensure the writers' works successfully connect with their intended audiences. Whether writing a breaking story, or issuing a press release about a newly published novel, today's media writers need to adapt their narrative for each specific media format, and this course will teach them how to do that while providing the analytical skills to apply what they have learned to any future platforms that develop.
