Communication Theory

Catalog description

The communication discipline is rich in both scope and depth of theory. The discipline first appeared in Ancient Greece and since that time has flourished through many practical and theoretical revolutions. In this course we will explore a range of those theories and examine the way in which these theoretical constructs have served as a foundation for our modern-day practical assumptions about the nature of human communication. We will pay particular attention to the way in which these theories converge and diverge with each other, as well as ways in which they may be put into practice to provide us more information on the human condition. As a student you will take on the role of the 'critic' so that we may explore the relationship between theory, research, and knowledge.
