ART 176
Intro to Visual Art Education
University of Indianapolis · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course provides students with strategies, knowledge, and support that will be critical to their success as art education students. Visual Art Education Co-Majors experience their studio art courses as both studio artists and pre-professional educators. ART 176 will help art education students grow their capacity to decode their studio art coursework through the lenses of teaching and learning. Students will leave ART 176 able to translate more actively and with more confidence their studio-based learning into their work as an art teacher (in both their current pre-professional and their eventual professional settings). In addition, students will also be introduced to fundamental concepts in art and education and build community within the art education major.
