Major Models of MFT III: Theory, Assessment, and Application

Catalog description

This class will explore challenges facing today's contemporary family. A significant part of the class is devoted to understanding and treating normative and catastrophic stress in the context of individuals, families, and society. Theoretical biological, emotional, and spiritual wellness will be emphasized. Contemporary therapeutic approaches such as EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Processing) will be explored. Effectiveness research literature as it relates to marriage and family therapy across a multitude of disorders and populations will be presented. Throughout the class, social, cultural, spiritual, and ethnic diversity will be addressed with attention to their impact on resources available to families. This class will culminate in the development and presentation of a capstone project. This course includes an in-person residency for online students. Prerequisite: CNS-543
