Wesleyan Methodist History and Polity

Catalog description

This course examines the history and polity of Churches in the Wesleyan Tradition, using its past as a foundation for conversation about the future of the churches. Students will study the work of John and Charles Wesley within the early Methodist movement, as well as the abolitionist and revivalist streams that shaped the pan-Wesleyan denominations we know today. The course also includes a focused study of books and other documents related to their denomination's polity and its impact on local congregations today. Finally, students will reflect on their own calling as world changers and as ordained leaders within the Wesleyan Tradition. Not open to students with credit in REL-431, REL-432, or REL-439.
