Catalog description

This course teaches the art of pastoral care is it relates to the psychological and theological needs of persons and Christian communities experiencing crisis. Theories of pastoral care, its ethical context, the healing functions of rituals, and specific interventions for crises such as unexpected death, trauma, divorce, addiction, abuse, natural disasters, and violent crime, will be considered. In addition, theological responses to the question of theodicy will be explored. This course is only offered as part of the Accelerated Master of Divinity program. Prerequisite: PCRE-547. Corequisite: SPIR-624
