Catalog description

In this course, the student will learn to use epidemiological principles to assess whole communities. They will identify their community's strengths and weaknesses by using epidemiological patterns, noting disparities, especially those that fall under social determinants of health. Students will compare their findings against state and national statistics providing insight into how to design a strategic plan to address the disparities. Fieldwork will include one on one communication with vulnerable populations to understand the lived experience of the unprotected. Interviews with Key Informants will help build an interprofessional collaboration and communication network. Upon completing this course, the student will build on prior learning and evidence competency in the following AACN (2021) Level 1, Essential Core Competencies for Entry-Level Professional Nursing Education for Domain 3: Population Health.
