Electrical Systems II

Catalog description

Electrical Systems II provides advanced instruction in high-voltage electrical systems, hybrid and electric vehicle (xEV) technologies, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Students will learn high-voltage safety protocols, hazard assessment procedures, lock-out/tag-out requirements, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when servicing fuel cell, hybrid, or electrical vehicle batteries and high-voltage components. The course covers battery analysis, testing, diagnostics, three-phase power systems, DC-to-DC converters, regenerative braking systems, and electric machine sensing systems. Students will examine fuel cell power systems, autonomous drive features, collision avoidance systems, and in-vehicle connectivity including Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Emphasis is placed on ASE Certification in xEV Electrical Safety Level 1 and Level 2 competencies, proper isolation and de-energization procedures, and assessment of damaged or compromised high-voltage vehicles. This course also prepares students for ASE L3 Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist certification and equips them with the specialized knowledge and safety skills necessary for careers servicing modern hybrid, electrified, and fuel cell vehicles.
