Catalog description

Heating and Air Conditioning Systems provides comprehensive instruction in the diagnosis, service, and repair of automotive heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Students will learn the principles of refrigeration, refrigerant cycle operation, and the properties of various refrigerant types and oils. The course covers HVAC system components including compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion devices, and climate control systems. Students will perform diagnostic tests, refrigerant recovery and recycling procedures, system evacuation, recharging, and leak detection using industry-standard equipment. Emphasis is placed on EPA 609 certification requirements, proper handling of refrigerants, safety protocols, and adherence to manufacturer specifications and environmental regulations. This course prepares students for ASE A7 Heating and Air Conditioning certification and equips them with the technical knowledge and skills necessary for successful careers as automotive service technicians specializing in climate control systems.
