Steering and Suspension Systems

Catalog description

Steering and Suspension Systems provides comprehensive instruction in the diagnosis, service, and repair of automotive steering and suspension components. Students will research vehicle service information, identify system components and configurations, and retrieve on-board diagnostics to diagnose system faults. The course covers rack and pinion steering systems, power steering fluid service, tie rod ends, control arms, ball joints, shock absorbers, struts, and wheel alignment procedures. Students will perform suspension system repairs including MacPherson strut service, short/long-arm (SLA) suspension repair, and active/adaptive suspension system diagnosis. Emphasis is placed on proper diagnostic procedures, component measurement, wheel alignment techniques, and adherence to manufacturer specifications and safety protocols including ADAS calibration requirements. This course prepares students for ASE A4 Suspension and Steering certification and equips them with the technical knowledge and skills necessary for successful careers as automotive service technicians.
