Catalog description

Electrical Systems provides comprehensive instruction in automotive electrical and electronic systems diagnosis, service, and repair. Students learn fundamental electrical principles including Ohm's Law, circuit analysis, and proper use of diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeters and scan tools. The course covers battery construction, testing, maintenance, and charging systems, along with starting system diagnosis and repair procedures. Instruction includes lighting systems, computer-controlled circuits, sensors, actuators, and vehicle network communications. Students gain hands-on experience diagnosing and servicing comfort and convenience systems including power accessories, keyless entry, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The curriculum emphasizes safety procedures for high-voltage systems and supplemental restraint systems (SRS). Students develop proficiency in reading wiring diagrams, performing voltage drop tests, and tracing electrical circuits. Course content aligns with ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) standards for electrical/electronic systems. Upon completion, students will be prepared to diagnose and repair modern automotive electrical systems using industry-standard tools and procedures.
