Catalog description

This course is an introduction to machine component design. Topics typically include deflection and spring rates, combinatory springs and equivalent stiffness calculations, deflection of beams, Euler column buckling and elastic instability, failure theories, safety factors and reliability, impact and fatigue, surface damage, detailed studies of major mechanical components such as springs, bearings, gears, shafts, etc. Design projects are normally required. Prerequisite: MEE-321.
