This course examines legal frameworks governing privacy, civil liberties, and counterintelligence activities within domestic and national security contexts. Students explore constitutional protections, statutory authorities, surveillance law, and intelligence oversight mechanisms that shape analytic practice. Students examine common counterintelligence methods from the analyst's perspective, including identifying insider threats, anomalous behavior, and suspicious patterns in data while respecting legal and ethical boundaries. Emphasis is placed on evaluating legal constraints, balancing security and liberty interests, and understanding counterintelligence authorities in public safety environments. The course integrates ethical reasoning and a Christian worldview that affirms justice, human dignity, and responsible stewardship of power.
