Catalog description

From ancient epics to modern movies, the most enduring stories carry themes that echo across eras. This course explores one archetypal theme across a range of literary works from multiple periods and cultures. By examining how each work treats the chosen theme in the context of its era, students will develop skills in literary analysis and critical thinking. The course cultivates comprehension of our shared humanity and improves students' understanding of their own lives and those of their neighbors, building empathy and Christian compassion.
