Literary Voices Across Time

Catalog description

This course will explore literature as "culture talking to itself," examining such conversations from antiquity to the present. Closely reading representative works, both Western and Non-Western, from various eras, students will recognize how literature often revisits the same ideas in various cultural contexts and will develop an understanding of the impact culture has on shaping and expressing views of self, God, and others. Through this comparative study of stories through time and place, students will develop critical reading skills and a deeper appreciation for literature's capacity to build bridges, foster empathy, and equip students to more fully embrace Christ's call to love God and neighbor.
