Catalog description

This course provides candidates with advanced knowledge and practical classroom experiences in implementing comprehension, vocabulary, and writing practices aligned with the Science of Reading. The course emphasizes how to evaluate texts, select assessment and instructional strategies, and create a culturally responsive, literacy-rich learning environments to meet the diverse needs of elementary learners. Candidates will administer appropriate assessments and analyze data related to comprehension, vocabulary, and writing. Candidates will also design and implement systematic, explicit, standards-based instruction in comprehension, vocabulary, and writing for diverse learning needs - all while becoming a literacy professional. Field experience required.
