Literacy Assessment and Intervention for Elementary Educators

Catalog description

Candidates develop proficiency in evidence-based, literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading. Through coursework and field experiences, candidates master assessment techniques to screen, diagnose, and monitor reading development. Candidates then learn to deliver explicit, systematic instruction in phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, and writing. They also learn how to implement Response to Intervention (RTI) as part of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) to differentiate for the needs of all learners. The course emphasizes practical application through lesson planning, teaching demonstrations, and reflective practice. Field experience required.
