Catalog description

This practicum course includes cultural immersion in a regional location to investigate the health resources and healthcare systems serving populations who reside in the area. Learning activities include an appraisal of population-level health-related strengths, needs, and risks, as well as the social determinants and complex variables that influence health outcomes in the area. Students engage with a community or healthcare organization in the region to learn more about the community resources and cultural health practices that shape health and well-being for a selected population being served. Based upon the analysis of health outcomes and healthcare-related resources, students propose collaborative plans to strengthen healthcare capacity for the selected population in the region. Professional engagement and communication, as well as the Christian values of cultural humility, care for the vulnerable and the inherent dignity of all people will be applied throughout this practicum course. Could take DNP-830 instead of this course. Prerequisite: DNP-730
