Cultural Immersion in Health Systems

Catalog description

This practicum course includes cultural immersion in a regional, national, or international location to investigate the health resources and healthcare systems serving populations who reside in the area. Learning activities include an appraisal of population-level health-related strengths, needs, and risks, as well as the social determinants and complex variables that influence health outcomes in the area. Students engage with healthcare professionals in the area to learn more about the healthcare systems, community resources, and cultural health practices that shape health and well-being within the population served. Based upon the analysis of health outcomes and healthcare-related resources, students propose collaborative plans to strengthen healthcare capacity and access in the region. Professional engagement and communication, as well as the Christian values of cultural humility, care for the vulnerable, and the inherent dignity of all people will be applied throughout this practicum course. Could take DNP-835 instead of this course. Prerequisite: DNP-730
