This course involves the appraisal of population health to identify the disparities that occur regionally, nationally, and globally. The factors influencing population health are critically analyzed, including health policy, social determinants, cultural practices, and resource availability, as well as acute circumstances involving humanitarian crises and disasters. The impact of these variables on health and well-being is evaluated and evidence-based, collaborative, culturally responsive interventions are proposed to address urgent needs, mitigate risk, and reduce disparities. Learning activities integrate the implications for advanced nursing practice and opportunities to engage in the policymaking process to advocate for vulnerable populations and advance health equity. Opportunities for reflection on ethical principles, cultural humility, and Christian values contribute to professional growth within the context of population-focused advanced nursing practice.
