This elective course is an introduction to the basic concepts and principles of substance abuse theories and counseling approaches. A biopsychosocial framework will be presented to assist in understanding addictive behaviors and substance use and abuse. The philosophies related to prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery will also be explored.
