Principles of HVAC

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of HVAC that will lay the groundwork for a strong understanding of the industry. Students will learn about the history and technological advancements of HVAC throughout the years. Students will become familiar with different HVAC terminologies, equipment, and applications. The principles of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration will be covered. Students will learn about the thermodynamic properties of refrigerants. Students will investigate the performance of the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, which is essential in refrigeration processes. Furthermore, the behavior of air will be examined by using the psychrometric chart. Students will be exposed to different heating techniques and equipment. Furthermore, students will investigate other heating systems such as baseboard heaters, forced-air heating, and mini split heat pumps.
