The course provides a unique overview of transnational organized crime in each continental region of the world. With a specific focus on the examination of how criminal groups use systematic violence and corruption to achieve their goals. Crimes discussed include money laundering, human smuggling, cybercrime, trafficking of humans, drugs, weapons, body parts, and nuclear material. Discussions are directed on how transnational crime ring activities weaken economies and financial systems and undermine democracy. Discussions also focus on how these groups upset peace and stability of nations worldwide, often using bribery, violence or terror to achieve their goals.
