Description: Surveys various eras of theatre grouped into major topics including Comedy and Sex, Comedy and Identity, and Comedy and Race. Examines and analyzes how the plays reflect the social and historical contexts of these topics, especially how perceptions of comedy have changed, and how issues regarding comedy’s relationship with race, gender, and identity inclusion have evolved throughout the centuries. Includes how playwrights, designers, directors, and other theatre-makers have presented and staged these issues, and how audiences have received them.
