Class Hours: 4 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 4 Restriction: Speech-Language Pathology Major Description: Provides and overview of the structure of language and the cognitive processing underlying normal language behavior with application for individuals with communication disorders. Includes a detailed study of classification of American English phonemes using physical and acoustical perspectives. Develops a proficiency in the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet for allophonic transcription of normal and disordered speech. Discusses dialectal variation throughout the course.
