Sociology of Native Americans

Catalog description

Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3 Description: An introduction to the history, “traditional” cultures, and changes brought by European settlement and American conquest and the range of social issues faced by contemporary Native Americans on and off reservations. A special emphasis is placed on the efforts of indigenous Indian societies to maintain and regain access to land and other resources. Activist responses are considered along with the social consequences of past and present initiatives and policies.
