Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3 Prerequisite: CHEM 112 and MATH 126 and PHYS 132 Corequisite: none Restriction: none Description: Investigates the physical basis of quantum mechanics through model systems (infinite square well, harmonic oscillator, rigid rotor), and their implications for atoms and molecules. Calculates physical properties of atoms and electrons using theoretical models of quantum mechanics. Analyzes the data generated by ab initio molecular orbital and plain-wave calculations, applied to properties such as covalent bonding, molecular structure, vibrational and rotational spectra and electronic transitions.
