Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3 Prerequisite: MIDL 222 with a grade of “C” or better Description: Emphasizes the view that the art of communication is an interrelated process, and the task of the middle grades teacher is to integrate the language arts throughout the entire curriculum. Techniques for teaching oral and written communication skills, listening, viewing, and visually representing are presented. Other integral components include spelling instruction to meet the developmental needs of middle-level learners and methods for increasing vocabulary growth. Special emphasis is given to recent trends and research in middle grades education.
