Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3 Prerequisite: Sophomore standing, 3cr of college history Description: Examines the cultural and social history of Late Imperial China. Includes elite attempts at creating an orderly Confucian society and also how less powerful groups altered or challenged this vision. Discusses the role of commercialization and commercial culture and China as an Early Modern society. (Titled Bandits and Poets: The Cultural and Social History of Late Imperial China before 2016-17.)
