Class Hours: 3 Lab/Discussion: 0 Credits: 3 Restriction: Deaf education or disability services major or Deaf studies minor or permission Description: Development of manual dexterity and fluency using fingerspelling. Acquisition of basic American Sign Language syntax, semantics, vocabulary, and pragmatics. Practice in acquiring general information from a signed message and conversing informally on commonly used topics. Exploration of the history of ASL and cultural aspects within the deaf community.
