Class Hours: 3 Credits: 3 Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in SPAN 390 ; instructor permission Corequisite: None Restriction: None Description: Develops a deeper understanding of current theories of foreign language learning through exploration of relevant research and implications for instruction, including at the secondary‑level. Students read about and discuss the implications of key research for teaching in secondary school classrooms. Provides opportunities to apply this theoretical base to design, deliver, and evaluate classroom lessons in preparation for student teaching. Special attention is given to designing performance‑based language assessments, refining learner‑centered instructional routines, and adapting instruction to address the special needs of learners. This course builds directly on SPAN 390 and prepares candidates for the expectations of the student‑teaching semester.
