Catalog description

This course focuses on philosophies, techniques, and materials needed to teach general music courses for grades 6-12. MUS 393 emphasizes exploring developmentally appropriate musical skills, the needs of adolescents (both in and outside the music classroom), differentiated assessment and instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), technology, and classroom management. This exploration includes educational equity, developmental theories, evidence- based practices, research, and teaching methodologies designed to promote individualized student growth within a secondary general music classroom. A blend of coursework and fieldwork ties theory to practice. Prerequisites: MUS 201 and admission to BCP I Co-requisites: MUS 391 or 394
