Catalog description
This course introduces students to non-Western music traditions from around the world. The primary goal of the course is to encourage students to listen to and develop an appreciation for modes of musical expression beyond their own cultural boundaries. Moreover, the course aims to reinforce the notion that music is a cultural construct, the definitions of which vary from people group to people group. The ability to read music is not required.
