Beginning Piano
Indiana State University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The objective of the beginning piano program at Indiana State University is to develop beginning musical literacy at the keyboard. Emphasis is placed upon an exploration of musical concepts at the keyboard and on the development of elementary music reading skills. The course is open to non-music majors, and to music majors needing a review of basic musical concepts. It should be noted that this course does not provide general education credit at Indiana State University but may be counted toward electives by many students. Students enrolled in the course devote regular time outside of class toward the practice of material covered. The amount of time needed to master the material will vary from individual to individual. Practice rooms are available in the basement of the Fine Arts Building.
