Catalog description
This course introduces automation and electrical control systems with a focus on programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Topics include open-loop and closed-loop control principles, numbering systems relevant to electrical controls, various PLC architectures, along with programming techniques including ladder logic, timers, and counters, program control instructions, data manipulation instructions, sequencer and shift register instructions, and interfacing PLCs with digital and analog I/O devices. Hands-on lab experiments and design challenges reinforce theoretical concepts and develop practical skills. Prerequisites: ECT 231
