Basic Gross Anatomy

This course gives students a more in-depth look at gross anatomy and introduces students to dissecting human cadavers. A class in basic gross anatomy provides several career readiness benefits across health, science, and fitness-related fields. This course offers a hands-on experience with human body structures that complements studies in anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, and biology and is crucial for advanced studies in medicine, nursing, physical therapy, etc. Scientific literacy is promoted through the use of anatomical terminology, spatial reasoning, and scientific observation skills. Each lab utilizes models that support tactile and visual learning strategies beneficial for kinesthetic learners. The final project encourages analysis of human body systems and their interrelationships, enhancing problem-solving skills. Additionally, this course introduces concepts of body donation, respect for human remains, and professionalism in clinical settings. As such, individuals have a chance to test their interest in healthcare or science fields before committing to a specialized path. Prerequisites: BIO 231 and 231L
