Molecular Biology is a unifying discipline that describes the structure and function of cells based on their genetic, biochemical, developmental, and physiological aspects. This course will introduce students to the dynamic relationships between cell structure and the biochemical processes necessary for cell growth, differentiation, survival and death. Students will gain knowledge of nucleic acid structure and function, protein structure and function, molecular genetics, mutagenesis, the biochemistry of DNA replication, recombination, and repair, RNA transcription, splicing, and processing, protein synthesis, and gene regulation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Prerequisites: BIO 102 and BIO 102L; successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in BIO 210L
