Catalog description

This course invites students to examine the broad sweep of art history from pre-historic drawings to the 21st century. This class will explore the contexts in which the artists worked, how those contexts shaped their methods and medium, and seek to understand the reasons artists created these works of art. Like music, literature, or poetry, the study of art involves a specialized vocabulary with which students will become fluent through lecture, class discussion, and their own research.
