Catalog description
This course develops time-dependent electromagnetism and introduces modern concepts in photonics and nanophotonics. Applying Maxwell’s equations in vacuum and in matter, students derive electromagnetic waves, study their propagation, reflection, and scattering, and analyze the flow of energy and momentum in electromagnetic fields. The course explores radiation from charges and dipoles, optical scattering from small particles, and the physics of nanophotonic systems.
