Seminar in SLP: Sociology of Health and Medicine
Illinois State University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
An examination of how social and cultural forces shape health, illness, and the healthcare system. Challenging the assumption that health is solely a biological issue, this course uses the sociological perspective to investigate how factors like social class, race, gender, and nationality affect our health and our experiences with medical care. We will survey key topics within medical sociology and apply core theoretical frameworks to make sense of contemporary health issues.
