Catalog description

This course offers a practical, hands-on introduction and exploration of the major styles of the art and craft of acting. In this class, students will apply the skills and techniques they have gained in Acting I and II, or the equivalent experience, to actively explore, analyze and perform some of the major acting styles that have developed from the theatre’s ritualistic origins. This class focuses on the different styles of acting as they developed from classical Greek and Roman drama, through the Medieval drama of the Middle Ages and the rich and varied styles of the Renaissance, to the Realism and Naturalism of the 19th and 20th centuries. Acting styles to be explored include Commedia dell’Arte, Elizabethan and the Restoration’s Comedy of Manners. Pre-requisite(s): THEA 111 Acting II or permission of department chairperson.
