Catalog description

This course is a comprehensive study of the operative environment, as well as the professional roles, communication techniques and ethical responsibilities of a surgical technologist. Lecture topics will include historical perspectives of perioperative services and medical terminology. The course also will provide theoretical knowledge for the application of essential operative skills during the perioperative phase. It will introduce the student to the practice of surgical technology with a focus on those skills necessary to function in the role of first scrub. The course will have a lecture and campus lab component. OPEN ONLY Open only to matriculated Surgical Technology students. Pre- or co- requisite(s): BIOL 270 Anatomy and Physiology I .
