African American Psychology

Catalog description

This comprehensive and integrated coverage of the field of African American psychology will address both African and American cultural perspectives. The four major themes of the courses are: an introduction to and the foundational framework of African American psychology; social systems and structures that include such topics as family, community, educational and work institutions; individual and developmental process that include a focus on interpersonal and close relationships, cognition, learning and language, religion and spirituality, and lifespan development; adjustments in adaptation, which include a focus on health, illness, disability, psychosocial adaptation and mental health, drug use and abuse, and prosocial and antisocial behavior.
