Catalog description
The student will learn principles of medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT, ICD-10-CM code set, and HCPCS level II. The course is recommended for anyone preparing for a career in medical coding for a physician’s office, and strongly recommended for anyone who is preparing for American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification exam. Pre-requisite(s): BIOL 115 Medical Terminology ; HITC 100 Introduction to Medical Office Procedures ; one of: BIOL 109 Biology of The Human Organism , BIOL 130 Concepts of Human Anatomy and Physiology , BIOL 136 Anatomy and Physiology for Dental Hygiene , BIOL 139 Anatomy and Physiology for Respiratory Care Students , BIOL 230 Anatomy and Physiology I , BIOL 234 Anatomy and Physiology II , BIOL 270 Anatomy and Physiology I or BIOL 271 Anatomy and Physiology II or by permission of department chair.
