Biology 210 focuses on an in-depth study of the field of ecology, with an underlying theme throughout the course being ecology from an evolutionary perspective. Beginning with the consideration of the organism as a unit, the course will investigate the concepts of tolerance and niche as a means to understand the more complex interrelationships between organisms and their surroundings. Of particular interest will be ecological relationships at the community level, including competition, predation and trophic level energetics. Physiological ecology (heat, energy and water budgets) and the dynamics of population ecology will be emphasized as students gain insight into the workings of the natural world. Pre- or co- requisite(s): MATH 150 College Algebra with Trigonometry or permission of the department chairperson.
