Introduction to Jazz History

Catalog description
Surveys the musical, cultural, and sociological facets of jazz music from the 19th century to the present. Traces the historical and stylistic trends of jazz from African and European influences to the modern forms of today. Studies significant composers, performers, and elements of music associated with this uniquely American art form. Lecture: 3 credits (45 contact hours).
