Catalog description

This course is designed to provide an introductory overview of the federal and state laws concerning provision of services to students with exceptionalities in the public schools. The course emphasizes the rights and responsibilities contained in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and a review of the political, legal, and social history leading to its passage. The Rehabilitation Act of 1973: Section 504 and the American Disabilities Act (ADA) are also discussed. Selective court cases, legal readings and educational law and policies for the State of Arkansas are included. Prerequisite: SPED 30103 (SPE 3013).
