Catalog description
This course studies the process of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) safety, machine maintenance, techniques and procedures. Advanced skills and abilities will be developed to prepare students for the American Welding Society (AWS) Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) qualification tests. The course involves welding a variety of carbon steel structural metals in the flat (1G, 1F) horizontal (2G, 2F), vertical (3G, 3F), overhead (4G, 4F), and the pipe specific (5G/5F/6G) positions. Course instruction will also include the understanding of all Non-Destructive/Destructive Testing and skill development in joint preparation of structural metals using Blueprint Reading, Oxyfuel Cutting (OFC), Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), Air Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC-A), and Sawing/Shearing Machinery.
