Catalog description

This course studies the process of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) safety, machine maintenance, techniques and procedures. Entry-level skill and ability will be developed to prepare students for the American Welding Society (AWS) Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) qualification tests. The course involves welding a variety of carbon steel structural metals in the flat (1G, 1F) and horizontal (2G, 2F) positions. Course instruction will also include skill development in joint preparation of structural metals using Blueprint Reading, Oxyfuel Cutting (OFC), Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), Air Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC-A), and Sawing/Shearing Machinery.
